Equivalent Exposure & the Exposure Triangle

The 3 camera settings that comprise the Exposure Triangle are aperture, iso & shutter speed.

On the back monitor of our Nikon D3400 cameras, the aperture setting is displayed by the 2nd circle. Apertures are typically numbers f10, f9, f8, f7.1, f6.3, f5.6, f5

The shutter speed settings are shown on the 1st circle on the back monitor. Expressed as fraction of a second, the shortest or highest shutter speed on our cameras are 1/4000 seconds and the longest or slowest shutter speed is 1/30 seconds.

The third setting iso controls the camera’s sensitivity to light. This setting goes from 100 to 12800 on our cameras.

To set the ISO on our cameras, we hold down the fn button an rotate the 3rd dial to set the iso to 400. Then set the aperture to f5.6, by holding down the #4 button on the top of the camera and rotating the Command dial.
